Characterization of Paenibacillus inducocolorata sp. nov. and Paenibacillus velox sp. nov., two new bacterial species of isolated from soil on the Siena campus
Abstract:
Paenibacillus inducicolorata and Paenibacillus velox, two new species within the paenibacillus genus, were isolated from the Siena College Thomson Trail soil. These isolates are rod-shaped, endospore forming, oxidase positive, motile strains. They have a gram-positive cell structure, but present with gram negative staining. Full genome sequencing was previously performed and presented these two novel isolates of the genus Paenibacillus. We profiled the metabolic basic characteristics and obtained a MALDI (Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization) fingerprint. In addition, the growing temperature condition maximum and minimum were tested for both strains to determine their appropriate livable environments. By characterizing these isolates, this will aid in the expansion of our microbial understanding.
