Prioritizing the Narrative: A Restorative Justice Based Workshop for Building an Inclusive Siena College Community
Abstract:
Restorative Justice (RJ) is a tool that utilizes a relationship-centered approach to repairing harm and building community. We developed a RJ-based workshop titled “Prioritizing the Narrative: Saints Marching towards an Inclusive Campus Community” which we hope to use with various groups on campus to increase the knowledge of RJ practices and show that RJ can be used to help spread knowledge of DEI. Previous RJ-based DEI work from our lab has shown these practices to be effective in educating on social determinants of health and health equity. Our goal is to begin conversations towards repair and healing to build a more inclusive environment and improve Siena College’s existing toolkit on building communities with a focus on restorative practices.
