Using DESI Data to Build Scientific Analytical Skills
Abstract:
Over the summer our group worked on analyzing large sets of astrophysical data taken by the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI). DESI will ultimately measure the effect of dark energy on the expansion of the universe by obtaining precise distances and optical spectra of millions of galaxies and quasars (accreting supermassive black holes). Our goal for the summer was to build our python and Linux coding skills to analyze the data graphically.
